Go-Around Isn’t a Failure – It’s Smart Airmanship

At Akron–Canton Airport (KCAK), with long runways and active traffic, go-arounds are a normal part of safe flying. Yet many pilots treat them like a mistake. In reality, choosing to go around is a mark of professionalism.

Imagine bringing your Cirrus SR20 into Runway 5. On short final, a gust pushes you high, you float, and touchdown looks uncertain. Forcing the landing risks running off the end of the runway—or worse, losing control. A go-around, on the other hand, resets everything safely.

Cirrus aircraft make go-arounds simple: full power, pitch for climb, retract flaps in stages, and re-enter the pattern. Communicate with tower at KCAK so they can sequence you back in.

Many accidents begin when a pilot refuses to abandon a bad approach. By contrast, a go-around provides another opportunity to stabilize, align, and land correctly.

Remember, no passenger has ever complained about a go-around—but many have been terrified by a botched landing. At Akron–Canton, where airline traffic mixes with GA, going around shows that you prioritize safety above ego.
